On December 7, 2024, Dr. Umene received the Best Presentation Award at the 14th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Pathophysiology in Kidney Failure held in Tokyo, Japan. Congratulations to him for winning the award in a row!

Dr. Umene received the Young Investigator Award and the Excellence Award from the Japanese Society for Peritoneal Dialysis at the 30th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Peritoneal Dialysis at the Fukuoka International Conference Center. Congratulations!

Three of us attended the American Society of Nephrology meeting (Kidney Week 2024) in San Diego. Dr. Umene and Dr. Matsuo gave a presentation and really got a lot of questions and comments from many researchers. Prof. Mark D. Okusa of the University of Virginia, a respected mentor of Inoue's during his study abroad, also stopped by our posters and asked many questions and gave useful advice.

On October 18 and 19, 2024, we participated in the 75th Annual Meeting of the Physiology Society of Western Japan held at Saga University School of Medicine. We presented 6 abstracts from our laboratory again this year. Ms. Yagishita presented in the undergraduate student session, Dr. Washimine, Dr. Shimoyama, Dr. Matsuo, and Dr. Miyazaki presented in the general oral session, and Dr. Umene, who presented in the the Award candidate oral session, received the Award. Congratulations!

We are pleased to announce that researchers from San Lazaro Hospital in the Philippines have visited our laboratory. We applied for joint research funding with San Lazaro Hospital and plan to begin joint research once the funding is obtained. We are looking forward to new collaborations.

New members joined our lab. Also, Dr. Soejima, who came from the Otolaryngology Department, has graduated from the graduate school and went to study abroad. We look forward to his success in his new position. The photo was taken at the send-off party for Dr. Soejima.

Four lab members attended Kidney Health In Aging and Aged Societies: JSN/ERA Symposium Collaboration with JSDT held at Kyoto International Conference Center on September 14 and 15. Dr. Umene, Dr. Matsuo, and Dr. Washimine presented their research results in English. They gave excellent presentations and we received many questions and had lively discussions.

From Friday, June 28 to Sunday, June 30, five lab members attended the 67th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Nephrology. Dr. Umene, Dr. Matsuo, and Dr. Washimine presented their research results. We learned a lot through discussions and other activities.

Dr. Umene and Dr. Washimine have just received the Nagasaki Medical Alumni Association Medical Research Grant for this year. Congratulations to Dr. Umene and Dr. Washine. Dr. Nakamura and Dr. Soejima received the grant last year.

Four lab members attended the 101st Annual Meeting of the Physiological Society of Japan @ Kitakyushu.

Dr. Umene, thank you for your excellent presentation. The symposium "Physiology learned from Fish" which Inoue organized was a great success, and we would like to thank everyone who attended. I would also like to thank Prof. Atsuko Yamaguchi, Nagasaki University Faculty of Fisheries, Prof. Susumu Hyodo, University of Tokyo Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute, Ms. Emma Hinako Moritoshi, Kagoshima University Graduate School of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and Prof. Shiro Itoi, Nihon University for their lectures. It was a great learning experience for us to participate in the conference.

This was Peter's last day at our lab after being with us for a year and a half. We wish him continued success in the future!
Dr. Umene received his Ph. D. today. This is the first Ph.D. degree since Inoue moved to Nagasaki. Moreover, he was able to graduate early in 3 years. Congratulations!

On October 20-21, 2023, we participated in the 74th Annual Meeting of the Physiology Society of Western Japan (@Fukuoka). We presented 6 abstracts from our laboratory this time. Mr. Hashimoto presented in the undergraduate student session, Dr. Wu, Dr. Soejima, Dr. Yang, and Dr. Matsuo presented in the general oral session, and Mr. Peter, who presented in the Award candidate oral session, received the Award. Congratulations!

Prof. Chih-Kang Chiang of National Taiwan University gave a lecture titled "The Roles of ER Stress on AKI to CKD transition: Emphasize on Adaptive UPRs". We learned a lot from the lecture.

We received a great gift from Dr. Wakako Arakaki of the Department of Respiratory Medicine, University of the Ryukyus. Dr. Arakaki stayed in our laboratory for two months, successfully completed the analysis of a huge number of samples, and returned to Okinawa. Thank you very much for the gift and your hard work.

Dr. Nakamura published one original article (Alpha 7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors signaling boosts cell-cell interactions in macrophages effecting anti-inflammatory and organ protection).

October 28 and 29, 2022 at Nagasaki University School of Medicine Memorial Auditorium, together with the Department of Neurobiology and Behaivor and the Department of Oral Chrono-Physiology at our university, we hosted the 73rd Annual Meeting of the Physiology Society of Western Japan. In addition, Dr. Chia-hsien Wu received the Award at this meeting. Congratulations!

On October 7 and 8, 2022, we held AMED Adaptation and Repair Area FY2022 Young Scientists' Meeting at Dejima Messe Nagasaki. Many researchers participated in the conference, and it was a very fruitful meeting. Thank you very much for your participation.
